A larger ring, a slower pass, a worse attic
Driver and fairway ferrules are bigger around. Tool marks show. Heat-gun installs gloss the graphite and then fail in daylight. Most of the cracked collars that arrive in February slept in an attic since the last leaf-burn.
Why woods split first
The OD is larger, so a thin wall after a careless turn has more ring to shrink in dry indoor air. Attics in Toledo swing from swamp to desert between August and January. Nylon that swelled in a trunk in July then baked over a garage in January will split along the grain of the turn. We replace with cabinet stock and we turn slower so the wall stays honest.
Metal collars on some heads
A few woods wear aluminum. Metal does not drink Erie air, but it will gall paint if the OD is proud, and it shows every scratch from a range-bag zipper. We dry-mock metal against the hosel paint before epoxy. If the paint is already chewed, a new ring will not restore the factory line. We will tell you that before we bill the metal stock.
Adapter talk we will not do
Sleeve adapters and aftermarket tips are bore work. If the sleeve is the reason the head clicks, a pretty ferrule is a costume. Marek stops. You take the head to whoever owns that sleeve. We will still turn a collar after the sleeve is honest, because the ring is what people see in the bag photo.
