Hybrid collar

The in-between ring people try to fake with iron stock

Hybrids wear a collar that is not quite an iron and not quite a wood. Installers reuse iron ferrules because the drawer is closer. That is how you get a step at the paint and a sit that looks drunk in a staff-bag pocket.

ID is not a suggestion

Hybrid tips are their own diameter more often than golfers think. A “close enough” iron ID that needs a hammer is the wrong part. We dry-mock. Friction should hold the ring for a sit check. If it needs persuasion, Tess pulls a different blank, not a bigger mallet.

Color between two families

Some players want the hybrid to match irons. Some want it to match woods. Both are legitimate. Mixing by accident is not. Tell us which family the hybrid belongs to in your eye. We will not guess from the head cover.

Swell on the “rescue”

Hybrids live through rough and through dew. They also live through people calling them rescues and leaving them against a wet cart wheel. Nylon on a hybrid sees splash more than a 4-iron. Humidity re-seat is a common hybrid ticket in June, especially from golfers who play the river holes downtown and keep the club in the same pocket as a soaked towel.

If the head is also rotating, stop. That is not a collar. We will not glue a costume on a spinning joint.
